Sum around a triangle

monday puzzler Apr 16, 2018

Can you solve this week's puzzle?  Start with "A" and then try "B" if you're up for the challenge.

A)  The triangle below has the numbers 1, 2, and 3 placed at the vertices.  Your job is to place the numbers 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 along the sides of the triangle (2 numbers along each side), so that the total for each side adds up to 17.  Example:  Let's say you place the numbers 4 and 5 along the side between the 1 and 2.  This would give you a total of 1+4+5+2 along that side.  The total is only 12 and you need each side to add up to 17, so 4 and 5 are not the correct numbers.

B)  This one is trickier.  You are not given any of the numbers.  Your job is to place the numbers 1 through 9 around the triangle in the same fashion as you did for part "A", which means placing a number at each vertex, and 2 numbers along each side.  But for this one, the total along each side must equal 20.  Good luck!
